Record breaking football camp in Wynberg

“This year was our biggest camp yet in Wynberg: 120 kids between the ages of 5 – 14 years. It’s great to see something like this growing and I look forward to seeing how St. Johns Church specifically looks at starting a sports ministry in the Wynberg area in the near future. It appears as though the kids really had a great week: I’ve had so many messages from parents marvelling at the care and love shown to their kids during soccer camp. There was a tangible sense of God’s presence throughout this week in amongst all the craziness and in between people. God was truly at work in the hearts and minds of young people.

We had 24 coaches who came from 5 of the 7 churches within / or connected to the St. John’s parish. It was one of the more diverse teams we’ve had in terms of race, gender and even age. some of the more special moments for me was during our coaches’ lunches and debrief in the afternoon, where people who would never be friends in normal circumstances were getting to open scripture together and enter into dialogue around issues of faith and how it connects to life.“
